I was going through the list of speakers and I noticed that no one from Linden Labs will be speaking. [As of yet] You would think Second Life would be a big part of this expo. If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area Sept. 3rd-4th, 2008 reserve your spot and stop by. Should be interesting! If anyone goes…comment on this post and let us know about it.

There are some really cool places to visit in Second Life. Whether you are new or a seasoned Second Life pro, I’ll be going around to some parties, places, and must see attractions to give you the scoop. For my first stop, I thought a beach party would be nice.
It’s always fun to get your groove on to reggae music while basking in the hot hot sun. Here at Irie Vibes you can party it up right on the beach. That’s right, a popular beach party destination every Saturday where you can listen to 8 hours of reggae music and dance under the palms.

It’s paradise…oh not to mention you can relax in beach chairs while you enjoy the party or you can sit on the beach itself.

Relax.

Party. This destination is pretty popular so don’t be worried about a dud party. When I made my way into the action, there were people dancing, talking, and relaxing all over the place.

Dance. Dance to the beat of reggae 24/7! I don’t know why, but recently the people/ avatars in SL have appeared as lines and blobs. Anyone else experiencing that? You can see evidence of the problem in these snapshots I took.

I apologies for the rather ’sensationalist’ title but I had to be certain of grabbing your attention

Tomorrow, I shall be performing live in SL for the first time ….and I must admit that I’m very very nervous at the thought.  I couldn’t or wouldn’t even try to count the gigs I’ve done in RL…..way too many to mention and for the vast majority, I’ve been cool as a cucumber, but this gig tomorrow has me shaking in my prim boots just a little.  My RL equipment setup is very sparse, I don’t have any mixers, monitors or other such ‘luxuries’ so I really will be depending on my voice to try to carry it through.  I tested the stream out earlier on today and at least I know that I can manage that..lol

On the RL stage, I’m a very ‘animated’ person whilst performing, I like to move around the stage and talk to the audience and I’m going to try to bring at least a little of that into SL in the form of a microphone HUD with animations etc.  I only hope that I don’t press the ‘bow’ button when I should be pressing the ’sing with arms outstretched’ button etc.  I could end up looking very silly indeed but it should be fun.  Hopefully I’ll be able to ‘bribe’ my 4-year old into being quiet as a mouse with a video game or two.. I mean it wouldn’t be very ‘hip’ or ‘cool’ to hear ‘mammy, I want to go piddle’ in the middle of a Mariah Carey song now would it?????? Please keep your fingers crossed for me on that particular issue

My performance will be part of a gallery opening and also on the bill is Hathead Rickenbacker who is by all accounts a fine musician, and I’m looking forward to hearing him.  There’s also some wonderful art on display, I picked up a piece yesterday and it’s taken pride of place in my SL home.  The Wharf itself is a truly unique build and it’s going to make a lovely setting for some live music.

Just having a look though my inventory the other day and I wish I had as many clothes in my RL wardrobe as I seem to have in my SL one.  Come to think of it, just imagine if we could change everything in RL the same way we can in SL!

We can all be perfect in Sl, the right shape, skin, hair and clothing..you name it, we can change it to whatever we want.  But sometimes, the perfection of it all get’s me down. A funny thing to say maybe, but somehow, it makes it less real at times.

We’ve all been ‘ruthed’ at one time or another…happens to everyone.  Whenever I get ‘ruthed’ I think of it as a reminder that in fact, perfection is only an illusion.  To me it’s a sharp ‘kick in the bum’ whenever I’m ‘ruthed’… a little practical joke from reality..so to speak.

As we live our second lives, we gradually make changes to our appearance, a little nip/tuck here and there untill we feel that we’re ‘just right’.  Sometimes, residents can be a little harsh to others who maybe don’t place the same emphasis on appearance as they do. Not everyone is a clothes fanatic, not all of us are obsessed with finding that perfect skin.  Appearance is an individual choice, what might work for one person might not be appealing to another and you know something, that’s just fine.  

For my first few months in SL, I had absolutely no idea that I was nearly 7 ft tall!  Which, by the way, is quite different from my RL height…very very different  It’s only recently that I change my height to be of a more realistic appearance.  Now I’m very much shorter than most people but I feel more like ‘me’ now. 

All of this got me thinking….why don’t we have a National Ruth Day?  I’m sure you’re all very familiar with Ruth… I like to think of her as the ancestor to the modern day AV.  Just imagine a day when everyone is Ruth.. no fancy clothing, skin or shape..just plain ole Ruth.  What would people talk about etc..  With nothing to differentiate us from each other but our personalities, how would we interact with eachother?

I’d be interested in hearing what your thoughts on this would be. Hopefully, I can get enough people interested and maybe organize something for my proposal of a National Ruth Day..

The Christmas madness is now well and truly upon us…and RL is a little frantic for me right now as I’m sure it is for everyone else too, so please forgive this rather short little post..

I was taking a quick browse through the event’s listings, when I stumbled across a listing for ‘The Great Candy Cane Hunt’….that promised ‘lots of canes hidden around the area with prizes’. Before you scroll down to have a look at the pic…..make a note of the fact that I’ve underlined the word ‘hidden’… to me, that means ‘hard to find’…..or tucked away in some secret place.  Anyway, I just had to have a little giggle to myself, when I found one or two canes….or to be more correct…they found me!!!     You may scroll down now……
