Virtual Worlds Expo

June 27th, 2008 | by marlowjust with No Comments »

All you Second Lifers out there might enjoy this cool nich expo for virtual worlds. There are four main categories right now:

Virtual Worlds Hollywood
Enterprise Virtual Worlds
Kids Virtual Worlds
The Future of Virtual Worlds

I was going through the list of speakers and I noticed that no one from Linden Labs will be speaking. [As of yet] You would think Second Life would be a big part of this expo. If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area Sept. 3rd-4th, 2008 reserve your spot and stop by. Should be interesting! If anyone goes…comment on this post and let us know about it.

What do you do in Second Life?

May 24th, 2008 | by marlowjust with 2 Comments

I’ve always been fascinated about online worlds and the people who populate them. Second Life is by far the most popular FREE virtual world. Well, it’s free to an extent. But that’s not the point. What do you do in SL? Some people set up shop, some own nightclubs, and some sell real estate. I’m a wander personally. I just wander around and explore. Sometime I will hit up a club or the latest happening, but I like to wander and network with people/ avatars. So lets pop this question again…what do you do in Second Life?

Second Life can land you a high profile job!

May 20th, 2008 | by marlowjust with No Comments »

I ran across this post this morning and just knew I had to share it. The proof that Second Life can be useful for more than just clubbing, buying clothes, and setting up shop. I’ve always been a believer in networking and SL has that covered. Have you ever been to an online job fair?

Sbrunozzi over at Second Life pros attended a recent job fair for an Amazon position and was picked to fly to Seattle for the final round of interviews. She has made it to top level interviews thanks to Second Life! I’ll definitely follow up on her story to see if she landed the job. Congratulations from SL Exposed!

Beach Party!

April 26th, 2008 | by marlowjust with No Comments »

There are some really cool places to visit in Second Life. Whether you are new or a seasoned Second Life pro, I’ll be going around to some parties, places, and must see attractions to give you the scoop. For my first stop, I thought a beach party would be nice.
It’s always fun to get your groove on to reggae music while basking in the hot hot sun. Here at Irie Vibes you can party it up right on the beach. That’s right, a popular beach party destination every Saturday where you can listen to 8 hours of reggae music and dance under the palms.

It’s paradise…oh not to mention you can relax in beach chairs while you enjoy the party or you can sit on the beach itself.

Relax.

Party. This destination is pretty popular so don’t be worried about a dud party. When I made my way into the action, there were people dancing, talking, and relaxing all over the place.

Dance. Dance to the beat of reggae 24/7! I don’t know why, but recently the people/ avatars in SL have appeared as lines and blobs. Anyone else experiencing that? You can see evidence of the problem in these snapshots I took.

That wraps up my visit. Until next time, sip a pina colada and
be sure to check it out every Saturday!

Education & Learning

March 26th, 2008 | by Pocket with No Comments »

Regarding leaning in SL, I’ve heard a place called ‘The Ivory Tower’ come up a lot, so I decided to pay a visit and see what it was all about. Well I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a beautiful looking building and the knowledge contained therein is helpful and easy to understand. There are tons of interactive tutorials on subjects like ‘how to build’ etc. I walked around it for quite some time, looking at all the various exhibits. I came across this ‘complicated’ looking piece and thought to myself ‘wow, I’d bet that’s hard to build’.. Well, I followed the instructions and I was amazed at how easy it actually was.. really just a matter of using the ‘drag & copy’ technique with some ‘rotation’ thrown in for good measure. I think it’s simple techniques like this that are often overlooked.

So why not pay the Ivory Tower a visit…you might just learn something new!

Since we’re still having a few technichal problems I can’t post a link but here’s the slurl so you can copy/paste it into your browser.

Video Tutorials

March 24th, 2008 | by Pocket with No Comments »

I was browsing through Youtube today and came across some fantastic SL tutorials from the wonderful Torley Linden.  He really does put so much effort into making his video tutorials so informative and fun to watch.

I myself am working on a little tutorial for using clothing templates so hopefully I’ll have that up and running very soon. Though it most definitely won’t be as ‘polished’ as Torley’s, I’ll do my best…  I’ve had so many people asking me about in in-world that I thought I may as well go ahead and do one.  As with nearly everything else in SL, all it takes is practice and lots of it.  I was sorting through my textures yesterday and I couldn’t believe it when I came across the TGA file for the very first item of clothing I created….not a pretty sight…lol

But the more I practiced and experimented, the more I improved and I learned something new everytime…

By the way, if you’ve found any great tutorial links…please feel free to mention them in your comments…

Hurray!!!

March 14th, 2008 | by Pocket with No Comments »

I am just so darn proud of myself…..  As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a great believer in inventory management but lately, mine has been growing and growing, so yesterday I decided that enough was enough and I set aside a couple of hours to really go through things and organize.

I opened every single box, went through every single folder etc.. I was amazed at how much rubbish I had amassed.  Some great items were re-discovered, and also some truly awful stuff was unceremoniously dumped.

I went through the clothing folder and boxed anything that I’d not worn in a while, and continued with that method for absolutely everything.  This time, when putting my items into my trusy ‘Thinc’ boxes, I didn’t mix no-copy items with copy items etc… and it’s so much easier that way.

Anyway, I reduced my inventory from 9000 items down to just 3500 or thereabouts and it really does make a difference.  Not only do I know where everything is but it has improved SL’s performance somewhat for me.

So now, I’ve more room to go out and buy MORE STUFF!!!
